摘要

Despite the fact that eucalypts originate from ustralia, our country is a net importer of eucalyptus oil, mainly due to copetitive production of the oil by countries such as Portugal, India and China. These countries mainly grow Tasmanian Bluegum (Eucalyptus globulus), a highly adaptable species that is excellent for wood production. However, it is not a high oil producer and the levels of 1,8-cineole (the active pharmaceutical ingredient) are usually 60-70% of the oil content. Pharmaceutical-grade eucalyptus oils require high percentages of cineole, therefore the lower grade oils quite often need to be rectified (redistilled).
