Reinforced thermoplastic composites (RTCs) are proving their utility not only in air craft interiors but also elsewhere on aircraft, where high toads and heat have previously dictated the use of high-perfor-mance metals. Tods Aerospace Ltd. (Crewkerne, Somerset, U.K,), for example, is producing reinforced thermoplastic Overheat Detection System (OHO) heat shields that protect the Airbus A400M military transport's wing spar from exposure to excessive heat from engine Weed air.
