Quickstep Holdings Ltd. (North Coogee, Western Australia) has signed a cooperation and development agreement (CDA) with Eurocopter and, in a separate deal, has begun initial manufacturing trials with GE Aviation (Atlanta, (la.) and Sikorsky Aircraft Corp. (Stratford, Mass.) at its recently opened Quickstep Centre of Excellence (NAQCE) housed at the National Composite Center (Dayton, Ohio). The Eurocopter agreement establishes the framework for a long-term collaboration with Eurocopter aimed at investigating, optimizing and then qualifying the Quickstep molding process for manufacture of production composite parts for the helicopter manufacturer. Subject to success during the initial optimization phase, the agreement lays the foundations for an "industrialization process" leading to the start of commercial production of aerospace components using the Quickstep process for several helicopter programs during 2008. Under the CDA, a new Quickstep-owned QS20 production machine will be deployed inside EADS group facilities in Ottobrunn, Germany. It also covers a guarantee to supply further QS equipment for production during 2008 and beyond.
