Insitu Inc. (Bingen, Wash.) announced on Aug. 7 that it is conducting development flight tests on its newly designed Integrator unmanned aircraft system (UAS). The Integrator, says Insitu, can sustain uninterrupted flight for up to 24 hours and carry a payload of 25 lb to 50 lb (11.3 kg to 22.7 kg). The runway-independent craft is designed for catapult launch and "sky hook" recovery (no net capture required) and is compatible with shipboard operations. The composites-intensive Integrator is modular, permitting easy replacement of its propulsion module, nose and internal bays, wings and tail. The aircraft system breaks down to fit in the back of a pick-up truck or Ilumvee. Insitu also manufactures the "Insight" class of UAV vehicles that includes the military ScanEagle, developed in partnership with The Boeing Go.'s (Chicago, 111.), and the commercial Fugro GeoRanger.
