Airlift capability and supply portability are key elements in any country's military and emergency preparedness. Until now, Boeing's C-17 Globemaster and Lockheed Martin's C-130J Hercules, introduced decades ago, have made up the bulk of the world's roughly 2,300 aging military transports, and many are due for refurbishment. Airbus Military (Blagnac, France) hopes to capture a chunk of this strategic market with its new A400M cargo plane.
