Advanced Composites Group Ltd. (AGG, Heanor, Derbyshire, U.K.) will have a role in two groundbreaking turbine generator R&D projects, worth over 2 million pounds (3.47 million dollars), that could have significant energy impacts. As the lead partner in a project that is examining "New Materials and Methods for Energy Efficient Tidal Turbines" (NEW-MMEETT), AGG and its partners will investigate new carbon and glass fiber-reinforced resin systems optimized to counter fatigue effects, which will then allow for reductions in the design allowables and, with the application of state-of-the-art aerospace technologies, to the design of more efficient tidal turbines. Aviation Enterprises Ltd. (Hungerford, Berkshire, U.K.), Materials Engineering Research Laboratory Ltd. (Hertford, U.K.) and the University of Bristol are partnering with AGG in this venture.
