A new system to value council-owned trees could revolutionise tree management, writes Matthew Appleby. The most valuable tree in Britain is a 750,000 London plane in Mayfair. And all of London's street trees could be worth as much as 4.2bn, accordingto a Capital Asset Value for Amenity Trees (CAVAT) system. Chris Neilan, Epping Forest District Council landscape officer and London Tree Officers Association chair, developed the system. He says that without a system showing what to do with the values,knowing how much your trees are worth doesn't mean much.
