摘要

Back in January, the Government gave its largely favourable response to last year's report by the Sustainable Growing Media Task Force (SGMTF), suggesting that with a "road map" in place to guide the industry's transition to peat-free media, the issuehas been largely settled. But among some in the industry, including representatives on the SGMTF itself, there is concern that successful alternatives to peat remain a distant prospect for some edible crops. One such is Lincolnshire Herbs, a major producer of potted herbs for supermarkets, and current holder of the tide Edibles Grower of the Year. Managing director Patrick Bastow says: "It's all very well the industry saying 'we will do such and such', but peat use is so widespread in so many niche crops.
