Gardens and gardeners really do seem to crop up in the most unlikely places! Engaged in that extreme time-devouring of activities, 'browsing the web', I recently came across mention of a collaboration between the clothes designer Margaret Howell and the garden and landscape designer Dan Pearson. On further investigation it transpires that from time to time Howell invites a designer she admires to produce a shirt for her collection. Now as anyone who has ever so much as touched one of Howell's shirts,let alone worn one, will know, there are shirts and then there are Margaret Howell shirts. Her attention to detail, construction and choice of fabric is unrivalled but, most importantly, this is all achieved with the maximum amount of understatement and the minimum of fuss.
