The variation of surface tension with temperature and concentration constitutes a driving mechanism known as Marangoni convection. We study a coupled thermo- and solutocapillary surface-tension-driven shear flow in an unbounded plane layer. The basic flow can be calculated analytically. The stability of the flow is investigated by a linear analysis. Results are presented for binary mixtures with low Prandtl and high Schmidt numbers typical for liquid metals. [References: 1]
