摘要

This paper surveys recent joint work with I.G. GRAHAM [2], [3] on spline approximation and with E.P. STEPHAN [4] on trigonometric approximation for the classical first-kind boundary integral equation with logarithmic kernel on a closed non-smooth boundary in IR(2). Before discretization the equation is transformed using a nonlinear (mesh grading) parametrization of the boundary curve which has the effect of smoothing out the singularities at the corners and yields fast convergence of the approximate solutions.
