An instationary deformed low viscous droplet undergoes typically a shape transition from an initially spherical shape to a long slender body. A nearly spherical droplet shape at the beginning of the deformation is well described by the small deformation theory and on the other hand a slender droplet at the end of the deformation is sufficiently well described by the large deformation theory. But during deformation, there is the necessity to use a new modified ellipsoid function with a shape parameter to describe empirically the droplet shape in the full range from small to large deformation theory. The new modified ellipsoid function was used to investigate more precisely the deformed drop shapes in uniaxial extensional flow at different capillary numbers. [References: 5]
