The phosphorus oxide selenides P4O7Se and P4O7Se2 are obtained by the photochemical selenation of P4O7 in presence of catalytic amounts of iodine. P4O7Se is obtained as a pure compound after evaporation of the solvent by fractionating sublimation or after concentrating the solution via fractionating crystallization. The compound crystallizes triclinic, space group , with a = 687.7(2), b = 720.2(3), c = 830.2(4) pm, a = 92.93(3)degrees, beta = 104.23(3)degrees, gamma = 94.46(3)degrees, Z = 2. Vibrational (IR and Raman) as well as P-31- and Se-77-MAS-NMR spectroscopic data are given. [References: 20]
