Ionothermal synthesis using a deep eutectic solvent has beenused for the first time to prepare a borate-containing material.The metallophosphate-borate compound crystallises in chi-ral space group I222. Two different alkyl ammonium cationsderived from the ionic liquid have distinct template effects onthe formation of cobalt phosphate layers and hydrophobicborate channels.
