Three divalent closed d shell metal complexes of the hydrotris(methimazolyl)borate ligand, [Ca(mt)(2)](.)6H(2)O, [Ba(Mt)(2)](H2O)(2), and Hg-4(mt)(4)Cl-4, were synthesized and characterized by single crystal X-ray diffraction; the three structures reveal very different ligand binding modes for each metal ion.
