摘要

Injuries caused by sea urchin spine penetration are common, especially in coastal regions, but there is not enough information about their management in the dermatologic literature. Penetration of the spines into the dermis or subcutis leads to local inflammation and infection for several days, and a delayed granulamatous foreign-body reaction may develop weeks or months later. For this reason, early excision of the spines is indicated, rather than waiting for spontaneous recovery. Here, we report a case of penetration injury caused by sea urchin spine treated using erbium-doped yttrium aluminum garnet (Er:YAG) laser ablation.
