Subsea compression has been a subject of top discussion in the oil and gas industry aimed to reduce extraction costs of the offshore gas reservoirs located in harsh environments. But the real question is: is this possible with the present state-of-th e-art compressor technology? The answer - examining the requests of the operators - is no. In fact, the cost of installing a gas compression system on the seabed is enormous, and economic benefits can be achieved only if the reliability of these systems can ensure an uninterrupted service for a period of time that has been quantified as five years or more.
