The recent news that engine builder MTU Friedrichshafen was up for sale came as more of a surprise than the almost immediate interest from MAN. According to reports, negotiations are underway at the time of this writing, so it is interesting to chart the ramifications of this move. Having disposed of aero engine systems supplier and service provider MTU Munchen a year before, Daimler-Chrysler's diesel builder from Lake Constance became the largest part of the vehicle builder which does not fit the organization's current and future vision of itself - and the only major remnant of its earlier vision as an "integrated transport technology concern."
