PE pipes were first manufactured a little more than 50 years now and they revolutionized the piping market for the local gas and water supply. This development process, however, is not yet terminated even today. PE characteristics, such as flexibility, resistance against corrosion, safety and easy installation, are some of the reasons of this positive development. On the other hand, the decision to use PE is more and more a consequence of the cost advantage. From an historical point of view PE is quite a "young" material which was mostly used in the beginning for low pressure applications. Due to the increase in the permissible pressure to 10 bar, later upgraded to 16 bar with the PE 100 material, the applicability and profitability of PE pressure pipe systems has increased.
