Ihave to comment on Dr. Ben Col-mery's insights to the "unfairness" of the Fairness to Pet Owner's Act (Feedback, June 2014). I think his response is a bit overreactive. If suddenly DVMs weren't able to sell drugs at all, would we really fall to destitution. I certainly hope not!In an era of online shopping and consumer awareness, we have to be open-minded about how we charge our clients and what we offer them. I interpret the bill as Congress simply trying to give rights to the consumer in a profession that is loosely regulatedfrom clinic to clinic as to how charges are generated. Perhaps working up cases and doing more diagnostics is a better way to generate revenue than by marking up drugs. Do we charge for recheck fees or not charge for them and rely on revenue from cephalexin.
