摘要

The main function of plasma membrane Na,K-ATPase of animal cells is to maintain Na~+ and K~+ transmembrane gradients at the expense of active transport of these ions. These gradients ensure electrogenesis and excitability of cells and maintain a number of other key transport mechanisms. The catalytic and transport alpha-subunits of Na,K-ATPase are expressed as four iso-forms (alphal-alpha4). Presumably, the main pump function is performed by isoform al, whereas the other subunits are regulatory. In the central nervous system, alphal-, alpha241-, and alpha3-isoforms of Na,K-ATPase are expressed. One of external sites of thealpha-subunit of Na,K-ATPase is a specific receptor for cardiac glycosides and their recently discovered endogenous analogues circulating in the subnanomolar concentration range [1,2].
