Reducers, represented mostly by bacterioplankton in aquatic pelagic ecosystems, are an indispensable link of all ecosystems, However, no more than 1-3% of plankton bacteria grow on solid selective media and can be directly counted; therefore, the bacterioplankton species composition has remained unknown until recently [1]. A new molecular genetic approach developed in the past decade makes it possible to determine bacterial species from the nucleotide sequences of rRNA gene and, hence, describe the bacterial link of aquatic ecosystems more comprehensivelyIn this study, we compared the seasonal dynamics of the species composition of free-living bacterioplankton in two small recreational reservoirs located 6 km away from each other in the vicinity of Krasnoyarsk. One of these water bodies, Bugach, was blooming with cyano-bacteria in July and August; the other, Lesnoye, was not blooming. These reservoirs are described elsewhere [2, 3] in detail.
