Mitsubishi Rayon has begun development of a component for fuel cell automobiles using PAN (polyacrylonitrile)-based carbon fiber, jointly with the Canadian CNG (compressed natural gas) tank manufacturer Dynatec, of which it is a shareholder. This involves a cylinder for hydrogen which is the fuel in fuel cell autos. Toyota and Honda are bringing forward their plans for fuel cell cars,and have announced that market introduction will take place around the end of this year.
