Magnetoelastic properties of some intermetallic compounds are investigated. In the first part of the work the results for the RMn_2Ge_2 (R = Sm, Gd, Dy) and R_xSm_(1-x)Mn_2Ge_2 compounds are presented. Then the data for Nd_3Mn_4Sn_4 are reported. In the second part of the work the data for HoRhSi and HoPdSn are discussed. In all the investigated compounds the change of the magnetic structure is connected with an anomaly in the temperature dependence of the lattice parameters.
