Formation of celsian from mechanically activated BaCO3-Al2O3-SiO2 mixtures

摘要

A ternary mixture BaCO3-Al2 0 3-Si02 wasmechanically activated for different lengths of time. Chemicalcomposition of the mixture corresponded to BaAl2Si2 0 8-BAS. Asa function of activation time, reaction course was followed in thetemperature range 750- 1200℃ . Reaction of celsian formationwas followed using thermogravimetry as well as conventional andhigh-temperature X-ray diffractometry. The obtained data showthat reaction rate increases with prolonged activation time, underthe same conditions of thermal treatment. Formation ofhexacelsian via a series of solid state reactions involving Ba-silicates, was favoured with increasing activation time. Directformation of monoclinic celsian was retarded, however, withprolonged activation.
