We have studied the magnetic properties of Dy sub 2 Co sub 17-x Si sub x compounds (x <= 3) by means of magnetic measurements and X-ray diffraction on magnetically aligned powders. The Curie temperature and the spontaneous moment decrease strongly with increasing Si concentration. All compounds show easy- plane anisotropy in the whole temperature range investigated. From high-field- magnetization measurements at 5 K and from magnetization measurements at the compensation temperature, the intersublattice exchange coupling was determined and found to be hardly dependent on the silicon content.
