Solid state reactions of SrOU_4 and TeO_2 in 1:1 and 1:2 molar ratio led to the formation of two new quaternary compounds SrUTeO_6 and SrUTe_2O_8. The compounds were characterised by X-ray and thermal methods. X-ray powder diffraction data of both the compounds were indexed on the monoclinic system. The standard Gibbs free energy of formation (DELTA_f G deg C, T) data of SrUTeO_6(s) and SrUTe_2O_8(s) were obtained by the vapour pressure measurement of TeO_2(g) over these systems by employing the Knudsen effusion mass loss (KEML) technique and could be represented by the relation:DELTA_f G deg C SrUTeO_6 (s)=(-2180.7+0.4263T (K))+-30 kJ mol~(-1) [1080-1162 K]DELTA_f G deg C SrUTe_2O_8(s)=(-2502.6+0.5816T (K))+-30 kJ mol~(-1) [955-1041 K]
