The Occupational and Environmental meeting was held in Tel Aviv University in November 2010 with the main purpose of increasing knowledge and awareness of the effect of occupational and environmental factors on health and to present new data on these issues to healthcare personnel.There were three main topics: Traffic-Related Particles in Wheezing Children, presented by Dr. David Bernstein (USA); COPD and Occupational Lung Disease, presented by Dr. Paul Blanc (USA); and Ultrafine and Nanoparticle-Induced Oxidative Stress: The Role of HO-1 and CO as Antiinflammatory Pathways, presented by Dr. Elizabeth Fireman (Israel). The other presentations dealt with issues related to the topic of granulomatous lung disease resulting from occupation and environmental exposure, such as beryllium (Dr. Lee Newman, USA), work-related asthma as a diagnostic dilemma (Dr. Shmuel Kivity, Israel), sili-cosis in Israel (Dr. Raz Dekel), and others.
