摘要

Sulcus vocalis (SV) is a pathological condition of the vocal fold in which the normal lamina propria is lost and replaced with scar tissue. In SV, the resulting incomplete glottal closure during phonation leads to the presenting symptoms of breathy hoarseness. We have developed a new surgical procedure called autologous transplantation of fascia into the vocal folds (ATFV) for SV cases (Tsunoda et al., 1999).We speculate that ATFV may lead to the regeneration of the lamina propria, perhaps through a mechanism that is similar to the process that occurs during stem cell transplantation in other organs (Tsunoda et al., 2001).
