摘要

The Center for Biotechnology (CeBiTec) of Bielefeld University, Germany, organizes annual symposia dealing with recent progress in biotechnological research. The 7th CeBiTec Symposium entitled “Bio-integrated Organic Synthesis in Industry: Biocatalytic Breakthroughs, Industrial Processes, Emerging Fields” was held at Bielefeld University in December 2012. The topic of the conference was centered on outstanding achievements in current challenges for the development of industrial processes for the synthesis of chemicals by using enzymes as catalysts. In particular, sessions were held on (i) achievements in academia in the field of biocatalysis, which already made their way towards industrial applications, (ii) today's state of the art of biocatalysis in the industry for the manufacture, e.g., of fine chemicals or pharmaceuticals, and (iii) current challenges and academic breakthroughs and their perspectives for the development of novel industrial biocatalytic processes in the future.
