In this pre-Olympic edition of JBMT, three papers have been selected for discussion: Acute repetitive lumbar syndrome: A multi-component insight into the disorder, by Solomonow et al, which is located in the Fascia Science and Clinical Applications section, Yoga and massage therapy reduce prenatal depression and prematurity, by Field et al. in the main body of the journal, as well as an excellent paper by Craig Liebenson on "Musculoskeletal Myths".The paper, by Solomonow et al, is a landmark review that documents the acute processes of cumulative micro-trauma in vivo. What was originally termed repetitive strain injury and latterly has been termed cumulative trauma disorder has been largely based on an application of engineering principles to human tissues and mechanics. In this paper, Solomonow and his team provide extensive and invaluable documentation of the actual process that biological tissues undergo after different periods and intensities of load and, importantly, across a subsequent rest period of 7 hours.
