Despite tremendous interest lately in the search for life extending medicine, little research can be directly applied to prolong human lifespan. However, visiting a doctor's office and having an injection of life-rejuvenating juice is no longer a scientific fiction thanks to the pioneering work led by Dr. Makoto Kuro-o at UT Southwestern Medical Center at Dallas. In a recent issue of Science, Kuro-o and colleagues have shown that Klotho, a hormone named after a Greek Goddess, who spins the thread of life, appears to suppress aging and extend lifespan, at least for now, in mice.
