摘要

Two polymorphs of trilanthanum iridium septaoxide, La_3IrO _7, were prepared as single crystals using a molten cesium hydroxide flux and were structurally characterized using single-crystal X-ray diffraction. Polymorph A crystallizes in the orthorhombic space group Cmcm with unit cell dimensions of a = 11.2103(3) ?, b = 7.4982(2) ?, and c = 7.6110(2) ?. Polymorph B crystallizes into the monoclinic space group P21 with the unit cell dimensions of a = 8.8512(5) ?, b = 5.7167(3) ?, c = 24.4454(13) ?, and b = 95.542(2)°. The crystal structure of polymorph A is isostructural to the family of compounds with formula Ln_3MO _7 (M = Nb~(5+), Mo~(5+), Ru~(5+), Ta ~(5+), Re~(5+), Os~(5+), and Ir~(5+)) while the crystal structure of polymorph B has no known corollaries.
