摘要

Rhus is a genus of plants that has many desirable biological activities.1 A sap extracted from Rhus verniciflua (the lacquer tree) has been used for the decoration or protection of furniture and ornaments in East Asia.Neurological complications associated with Rhus have usually resulted from long-term exposure to volatile lacquers in workers in close contact with lacquer thinner2 or in those who sniff the thinner.3 However, there is no previous report of acute neurological complications caused by Rhus ingestion over a short time. Here we report a patient with acute toxic encephalopathy caused by the ingestion of Rhus extract.
