摘要

Examination of nursing care provided to older adults is a relevant and valuable process as health care providers respond to the needs of this growing segment of our population. For many reasons, with improved health care having a major influence, people are living longer and consequently, have the chance to develop more health problems and deal with the consequent, chronic disabilities. As a result, the majority of health care resources are used by older adults.The area of geriatric nursing research is expanding as nurses face increased demands in caring for the older adult cohort. Nurse researchers now have numerous opportunities to evaluate interventions and scientifically develop the 'best practices' for older adults. Co-morbidities and poly-pharmacy are two challenges common among older adults providing strong rationale for continued and expanding research in geriatric nursing. Kihlgren et al. have advanced geriatric nursing research through their study. The aim of this study was 'to use the experiences of emergency nurses to illuminate what constitutes good nursing care for patients 75 years or older transferred to emergency departments (EDs)'.
