It is my great pleasure to write my first Editorial for the World Journal of Biological Psychiatry (WJBP) as the new Chief Editor from 1 July 2009 onwards.The WJBP is the official journal of the World Federation of Societies of Biological Psychiatry (WFSBP). It was founded in 2000 with Hans-Jiirgen Moller as the Chief Editor who successfully developed the journal and brought it to acceptance for indexing by the National Library of Medicine (Med-line) in 2002 and by Thomson ISI in 2003. Over the past years the journal advanced and introduced online manuscript submission and received its first impact factor in 2006 which recently rose to the respectable figure of 3,58. Thus the WJBP is one of the most renown international psychiatric journals.The WJBP aims to serve as a major forum for the publication and wide dissemination of high quality, influential research in biological psychiatry, in the basic, clinical and interface domains. Furthermore, it aims to foster and encourage scientific research, education and advancement in the field of biological psychiatry world-wide, especially also in regions with limited scientific and medical infrastructure.
