Apart from a well-established role of platelets in haemostasis, their activation may contribute to the development of chronic allergic inflammation [1]. Platelets release a number of potent mediators of vasodilatation and increased vascular permeability [2], and chemoattractants promoting migration of leukocytes to the site of allergic inflammation [3]. Atopic dermatitis (AD) is a chronic skin disorder of the complex pathogenesis involving immediate hypersensitivity and cellular responses, characterized by skin inflammation and itching [4].
