Digital electrocardiograms (ECGs) have several evident advantages over paper-based ECGs. They are easy to store, easy to retrieve, can be transmitted electronically, and do not deteriorate. However, although this technique has been available for a long time, the lack of trained staff, guidelines how to analyze the ECGs, and absence of a unique format to store the digital waveform have led to its underuse.
