Hospital administration provided funding for our emergency department to engage patient-throughput consultants and develop a redesign team consisting of ED employees, including physicians and midlevel providers, inpatient nursing personnel, and ancillary service providers. Recognizing that our patient throughput affected many departments in the hospital, it was important to include all those who would be involved in the changes. We contracted with Insight Strategies, LLC, (Northville, MI) to help us with diis monumental undertaking. Our team goal was to redesign our current patient-throughput model for the emergency department. We wanted patients to quickly see a provider and receive prescribed treatment.
