Dr. Astedt-Kurki is recognized nationally and internationally for her family nursing research and the development of master's and doctoral education in family nursing at the University of Tampere. She has held an academic position with the Department of Nursing Science, University of Tampere throughout her career but has been involved in several international collaborations. Since 2002 she has been a professor in nursing science, and for the past eight years she has served as the head of the department.
