The medical research community faces increasing demands for efficient (with respect to both financial and participant resources), timely, and valid approaches to the assessment of new interventions. The streamlining of drug development, from laboratory to population safety assessment, is a topic of ever-increasing concern. The Perelman School of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania has established a conference series, funded by The National Cancer Institute through a 5-year Conference Grant and cosponsored by the American Statistical Association and the Society for Clinical Trials, aimed at facilitating advances in approaches to the statistical design, implementation, and analysis of clinical trials.
