Haematological alterations induced by heavy metal cadmium toxicity in Clarias batrachus.

摘要

Present study was conducted to evaluate the alterations in haematological parameters of Clarias batrachus exposed to sublethal concentration 13.8 mg/l of cadmium sulphate for 30, 45 and 60 days. TEC, TLC, PCV, MCH, MCV and Hb were analysed. In the tenure of experiment TEC, PCV and Hb observed showed decline after experimentation period while MCH and MCV increased after 60 days. TLC observed after 45 days showed significant increase. Haematological manifestations of treated fish Clarias batrachus are suggestive of anemic conditions of fish due to sublethal toxicity of cadmium. Behavioural observations showed restlessness with jerky, erratic movements with initial dose of cadmium with reduction in swimming and loss of coloration observed during course of experiment.
