Significant changes to the U.S. health care system will occur when the provisions of the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (ACA) of 20101 are implemented in states across the country. Millions of currently uninsured individuals will have access to health insurance coverage through state insurance exchanges, which will include coverage options at competitive rates. Medicaid, the Children's Health Insurance Program, private coverage options, and subsidized coverage, as well as federal programs such as those offered through the Social Security Administration, will be available through these exchanges. For states that do not set up an exchange, a federally operated exchange will be established.
