Over the 17 years that cover the first 100 issues, the Journal of Health Communication has helped to redefine the central role of health communication in shaping the domestic and global health agenda. Scott Ratzan's own experience in global health has in no small part made the difference in how quickly this journal became an authoritative source for innovative ideas in health communication and public health interventions. What I want to do in this commentary and tribute to the journal is first briefly discuss what the journal has meant to me and the work that I do. I will then end with a section on how I believe the journal could help us meet the future global health objectives.
