The activity of hemoglobin lytic protease and of casein lytic protease, recalculated per 1 g of tissue, was higher in the stomach and the gut of the fry of pike Esox lucius than in the body of their food objects. The total protease activity, recalculated to the decapitated body weight may be higher (prey—pike) or lower (underyearling cyprinoids (Cyprinidae)) compared to the digestive system of the predator pike. The ratio of activity of similar hydrolases of the predators and their prey depends on the size and species of the prey, digestive phase, and some other factors. Due to the induced autolysis, the proteases in the tissues of the prey greatly impact the digestion of the young fish.
