In this issue of WORLD NEUROSURGERY, Nataraj et al. provide us with a comprehensive analysis of the large series of cerebral arteriovenous malformations (AVMs) treated by the two senior authors, Professors Mendelow (neurosurgeon) and Gholkar (interventional neuroradiologist). The study included 290 patients, of whom 265 were treated with one or more modalities (microsurgery, embolization, and radiosurgery) to the point of complete obliteration or where further treatment was, in the opinion of the treating physicians, not feasible. Twenty-five patients were treated conservatively either because they were in poor neurologic status or because it was thought that the risk of treatment would be excessive.
