Sodium [~18F]fluoroacetate is known as a PET tracer for prostate cancer, myocardial and cerebral oxidative metabolism, Ethyl [~18F]fluoroacetate, however, has never been investigated as a PET tracer, though the ester is an attractive brain imaging precursor because it is more lipophilic and facilely pass brain-blood barrier. Here we report a new approach to the synthesis of ethyl [~18F]fluoroacetate using distillation for purification, which made it possible to provide the ester in a pure and stable preparation for PET imaging study.
