摘要

Solidago canadensis Linn, belonging to the family Asteraceae is much valued as an herbal medicine, and is a good natural source of phytomedicinal molecules such as diterpenoids. Diterpenoids possess a wide spectrum of biological activities like anti-inflammatory, antiulcer, hepatoprotective, antiallergic and antiseptic properties. As there is no pharmacognostic work on record on the whole plant, the macroscopic and microscopic characters are described and illustrated along with their physicochemicalconstants, preliminary phytochemical and fluorescence analysis. Powder microscopic features and the - behaviour of the powder with different chemical reagents are also reported, which can be used for identification of the plant drug in dry form.
