Time resolved in situ powder X-ray diffraction has been used to study the kinetics of crystallisation of gibbsite from supersaturated synthetic Bayer liquors as a function of temperature and hydroxide ion concentration. It was found that the crystallisation data was best described in terms of the Avrami-Erofe'ev kinetic model. This analysis indicated a two-dimensional growth mechanism with a deceleratory nucleation rate. [References: 40]
