A time dependent treatment of the hereditary polarization in solids, which takes care of the dipolar interaction within an effective field approximation, is carried out. The Lorentz local field that proved to be inadequate to deal with the dipolar orientation in liquids is taken, indeed the non-instantaneous part of it, as the more convenient one to describe the long range interaction between dipoles with hindered orientation as is the case in solid state. It is shown that the interaction between the dipoles: (1) makes the polarization larger through the interaction of the dipole rotation polarization and the deformation polarization and (2) slows down the orientation process.
